Principals Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

Welcome back for Term 3, I hope that everyone had a wonderful break and had plenty of time to relax in preparation for another big term of school.

It has been wonderful to see the students return to our learning routines quickly in the first two weeks of the term and to hear about all the fun adventures of families had over the school holidays.

We certainly have an action-packed term ahead that includes:

  • NED Show incursion
  • 100 days of school dress up
  • Book week
  • Science works
  • 5/6 Football and Netball
  • Division athletics

Term 3 is the term where staff and students are knuckling down and are uninterrupted for the duration of the term. With that being said, it is imperative that we have students here as frequently as possible and on time. Doors open for the school day at 8.50 and learning time commences at 9.00am.

Parent/carer/Teacher Interviews:

Thank you to all families that were able to attend our Term 2 PTIs. Teaching staff have mentioned how they value the opportunity to openly discuss student progress with families and find ways in which we can work together to get the best outcomes for our students.

NAPLAN:

Last week students in Grade 3 and 5 received there NAPLAN results. We are very proud of the results our students have achieved, if there are any questions regarding these results, please contact me and we can have a discussion.

Building Works:

Over the holidays we had several projects completed at school. Our Wellbeing/intervention room and staircase from the office to upstairs painted and we have had our shade over the sandpit replaced.

Again, welcome back to school for Term 3.

Have a great weekend.

Foundation News - Mrs Emily Burns

It has been a lovely and calm start to Term 3! We have begun our Core Knowledge unit of Geography, with the focus being about our country, Australia.

Within this unit, students have begun learning about the states of Australia and identifying them on a map. It has been wonderful to see students share their prior knowledge and experience about a map, and our country Australia.

We have had some very interesting discussions! In literacy this week, we are continuing to work on our phonics skills, identifying letters, sounds and reading and writing CVC words in simple sentences. In Numeracy, we have learned about Australian money and are continuing our knowledge of counting collections up to 20.

Grade 1/2 News - Miss Rhiannon Eustice

Week 2 of Term 3 and Grade 1/2's are well and truly back into it. This term our knowledge unit is on geography.

The students are learning all about Australia and where it is in the world. To spice things up, the class are filming a news segment across the term visiting each state and territory.

This week we starting filming and our news anchors Kadison and Summer did great reading their script...

Watch this space as we will have something special to share at the end of term!

Grade 3/4 News - Mr Andrew Goodson

This week in Maths, the 3/4 class built and then investigated the strength of different shapes and designs.

Whilst constructing some of the shapes was challenging, the flimsiness of some shapes was a clue that they wouldn’t be able to bear much of a load.

On the other hand, we discovered that triangles could withstand more of a load than other shapes.

Grade 5/6 News - Mrs Sharon Smith-Francis

Grade 5/6 have been actively engaged in exploring the atlas, focusing on the Continents.

They eagerly examined maps and discussed various geographical features, gaining a deeper understanding of different parts of the world.

AUSLAN NEWS – Mrs Bonnie Irving

During Term 2 our Grade 3-6 students have been working on creating their own Auslan wordsearches.

Have a go at this Hair Style themed wordsearch which was put together by Josie, Gerrard and Aleah.

New STaff - Erin Ireland

I am excited to introduce myself as the new Student Wellbeing Officer here at Macarthur Street Primary School. It's been a delight to join the Mac Street family and I am enjoying getting to know all of the amazing students here.

With a background in community and family services, I am here to support both students and families in any way I can. Whether you need guidance, assistance, or simply someone to talk to, I am available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please don't hesitate to reach out to arrange a time to meet or speak with me.

I am particularly excited about the opportunity to set up a new wellbeing space for students. This space will be a safe environment where students can relax, recharge, and access support when needed. Additionally, I look forward to working with the school community to explore and develop new programs and supports that will enhance student well-being and success in the future.

When I am not at work, I am a busy Mum to two young boys and have a passion for horses, travel and reading. I look forward to working together with you all to ensure a positive and supportive environment for all students and their families.

  1. Describe your perfect day?

My perfect day would start with breakfast in bed, followed by horse riding and lunch with friends. In the afternoon, I'd enjoy a good book by the heater. Then I'd end the day snuggled up under blankets with my kids with popcorn and a movie.

  1. What’s a movie you could watch every day?

"Forrest Gump." It's an extraordinary story that never fails to bring out the tears while also leaving me uplifted and reaffirming my belief in human triumph. It shows that even in the darkest moments, good can emerge, making it a timeless tale of resilience and hope.

  1. What is your favourite food?

Chocolate - yum! Besides being delicious, it also releases feel-good chemicals that offer an instant mood boost.

  1. If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?

Definitely the ability to fly. As a child I would spend hours laying on my trampoline watching the clouds and birds, imagining how magical it would be to be able to fly with them. I think the idea of being able to fly brings a sense of freedom and the ability to go, literally, wherever the wind takes you.

  1. What’s one thing about you that you think would surprise people?

One surprising thing about me is my slight obsession with Disneyland. It's my goal to visit every Disney park in the world and share that magical experience with my kids someday.

2024 Book Week

Come dressed as your favourite book character and help us spread the joy of reading on Friday 23rd August.

If you love reading non fiction books, don’t miss out, you could dress up as your favourite animal, dinosaur, weather system…
