Principals Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

As we reach the end of Week 8, we find ourselves just days away from concluding another busy and rewarding Term 3. The past fortnight has been no exception, filled with exciting learning opportunities and memorable experiences. Our Grade 1/2 students enjoyed an excursion to The Gruffalo’s Child show, while students in Grades 3–6 continued to build their skills and teamwork during basketball clinics.

It has been a very busy fortnight in our Grade One classroom! As part of our Knowledge Unit, we have been exploring the fascinating world of insects. Last week, (thanks to Miss Eustice), the students enjoyed a wonderful hands-on learning experience about bees. They examined a real beekeeper’s suit, complete with a netted headpiece, and even had the chance to try on a beekeeper’s hat. A highlight of our "bee-topic"  was tasting honey on toast, which was a big hit with everyone!

Another exciting activity was our excursion to Her Majesty’s Theatre to see the stage performance of The Gruffalo’s Child. The students represented our school beautifully with their excellent behaviour, and we all had a fantastic time joining in with the singing and actions.

With just over a week remaining in Term 3, our learning continues, and classroom routines are keeping everything running smoothly right through to the end of term.

In the 3/4 class these past two weeks, we’ve been delving deep into the world of fractions!

Fractions as a part of a whole number. We know that the bottom number is known as the denominator and tells us how many parts there are. The top number is known as the numerator and tells us how many parts we have. (Incidentally, the line that separates the numerator from the denominator is called the vinculum).

We’ve done a fair bit of work around fractions over these past two weeks, including finding fractions of an amount and circling/shading given fractions.

This term, a group of our Grade 1–3 students are taking part in the SPARK Wellbeing Program. SPARK is an evidence-based program that helps children build important social and emotional skills such as problem-solving, managing emotions, and showing empathy. It also encourages cooperation, kindness, and respect, which support positive relationships at school and at home.

Last week in SPARK, students explored how to recognise their own feelings and the feelings of others. Through fun, hands-on activities, they learned about:

• Identifying feelings
• Exploring similarities and differences in feelings
• Recognising body signals
• Talking about anger in safe and helpful ways

To finish, students created a life-sized body poster, mapping out where and how they feel anger in their bodies (see photo).

We’re excited to announce our School Colour Run for 2025! This year, we’re raising much-needed funds to upgrade our oval with synthetic grass, with a fundraising target of $7,000 - and we need every family to pitch in!
