Dear Parents, Carers, and Community Members,
Welcome back to Term 2! After beginning the term with a short week, it has been refreshing to enjoy a full week of school and re-establish our daily routines.
Students have settled in well across all year levels and are already engaging deeply with their learning.
The last two weeks in foundation have been a ball of fun – it is so nice to think back to week 2 of term 1 and compare the growth that everyone has made. Everyone is becoming quite independent in the mornings once we are inside the classroom which is fabulous. In Reading this week we are completing a core knowledge unit on ‘stories’ – We have been reading The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. In Writing we have been learning about verbs and identifying them in sentences. In Maths we have been comparing collections and identifying properties of shapes. During knowledge we have extended our understanding of the story of The Three Little Pigs and have practiced retelling the story in sequence. We have listened to alternative versions of the story and identified similarities and differences between the plot and characters.
Welcome Back to Term 2!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and a relaxing break! It has been fantastic to welcome all our Grade 1 students back to school—although we’re not in our usual classroom at the moment. Due to some structural work being carried out on our floor, we’ve temporarily relocated to the STEM classroom upstairs. The students have handled the change exceptionally well and settled in without a hitch.
We’ve jumped straight back into learning, beginning with a focus on ANZAC Day and the soldiers of World War I. I must say how incredibly proud I was of all our students during last week’s ANZAC ceremony. They displayed great respect and maturity throughout the event.
Students in Grade 2 have settled well and truly back into their learning. Whilst only a short week last week, the Grade 2's had a great opportunity to begin learning about their knowledge topic 'Australia at War' and participated in the ANZAC day ceremony at school. Students this term are learning about the ANZACs and the First World War.
In class, they have been reading the story ANZAC Ted and following the journey that he and the ANZACs took to fight in Gallipoli, Turkey.
War is something that can be sad and scary, but it is also important to remember all the people who were brave and fought for their country Australia.
The 3/4 class has certainly hit the ground running. So far this term we have been learning about war.
Last week we were able to watch the Grade 6’s conduct the Anzac Ceremony at the Gallipoli Oak and we’ve learnt a bit more about that disastrous campaign. Australian and New Zealand soldiers fought hard in what was an impossible mission.
Nevertheless, it was the heart and resilience that those brave soldiers displayed which gave them the reputation as some of the best soldiers in the world and left a legacy of courage, self-sacrifice, mateship and loyalty which should never be forgotten.
Welcome back to Term 2! We have had a wonderful start to the term. Last week we spent our knowledge time learning about ANZAC Day, with students sharing their own knowledge and stories about this important day. Our Grade 6 students showed great respect and responsibility when hosting out ANZAC Day service with Mr Goodson. To round out the week we made some delicious ANZAC biscuits.
This week we have begun our knowledge unit on World War 2. So far, we have had some great discussions about Australia’s involvement in WWII with students showing an extensive base knowledge about Australia and their involvement in wars.
On Thursday, 24 April, our school community came together to honour ANZAC Day with a ceremony led by our Grade 6 students. The entire school attended, along with families, to pay their respects and reflect on the courage and sacrifice of the Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women.
Our Grade 6 students conducted the ceremony with exceptional poise and respect.
We are incredibly proud of our Grade 6 students for the thoughtful and respectful way they led the event. Their leadership and maturity were evident, and they represented our school with great honour.
