Term 4
Just like Term 3, Term 4 is going to be an extremely busy Term. We will continue to work with our educational consultant Greg Clement as we consolidate our shift in instructional practice to a highly structured and explicit teaching approach. Greg is excited to be meeting the students in our school, he has heard a lot about them and has been following the progress from afar. Our Grade 6 students will be visiting the Soldier’s Hill kinder for four sessions. We hope to make the transition to school far easier by having students take part in Q&A with the kinder kids, our students will explain all the ins and outs of a school day. Our whole school will be off to the Ballarat Observatory as we are learning about Earth and Space in Term 4. Our Grade 3-6 students will be off to our ‘bush’ camp at Log Cabin Camp in Creswick and to think we are already busy enough we will add a school concert as well.

Hats
As we are a SunSmart School, students are expected to wear broad brimmed hat that features our school logo from the beginning of Term 4. Please have these ready for use in Term 4 with student names on them. We do have some for sale at the front office for $15.00.

The Writing Revolution
In Term 4, teaching staff will begin our training in the Writing Revolution. The Writing Revolution is a research-based method that focuses on teaching writing skills systematically to improve students’ thinking, reading, and communication abilities.

What is The Writing Revolution?
TWR emphasises the connection between writing and critical thinking. By breaking down the writing process into clear, manageable steps, we teach students how to organise their thoughts, develop clear and compelling arguments, and express themselves more effectively.

Why is this important?
Strong writing skills are essential across all subjects, not just in Literacy. Whether it’s explaining a math problem, summarising a science experiment, or reflecting on a historical event, writing helps students deepen their understanding and communicate their knowledge.

How does it work?
TWR focuses on:

• Sentence-Level Instruction: Teaching students to construct well-formed sentences, a crucial foundation for strong writing.
• Paragraph Building: Encouraging students to organize their thoughts into clear, structured paragraphs.
• Writing Across Content Areas: Applying writing techniques in all subjects to improve understanding and expression.

We are excited about the impact this will have on student learning and look forward to sharing more as we see growth in our students' writing abilities!

Building Works
Over the school holidays, we will see our Art Room’s makeover complete. Flooring, painting and cabinetry will be complete – the space will look brand new! Our office area will also be freshly painted and have new carpet installed; we can’t wait for everyone to see how beautiful our school will look.
