Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

We are now past the halfway point of Term 3, and the term is flying by! With our school production only a few weeks away, classrooms and our main cast are busy rehearsing, mastering their lines and sharpening their moves in preparation for the big night.

There is, however, one BIG question floating around the school… who is Barry?! We can't wait to see if the mystery is solved before production night!

Berry Street Education Model (BSEM)

Last Monday, all staff participated in our fourth and final Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) session. This final session focused on bringing together the strategies we have explored throughout the BSEM training and considering how we can apply them consistently across our classrooms and school.

A key focus was on building students' readiness to learn, supporting emotional regulation and using predictable routines and strategies that help students feel safe, connected and ready to engage in learning. Staff reflected on how these approaches can be embedded into our everyday teaching and school practices to support positive behaviour, engagement and learning.

We look forward to continuing to build on this professional learning and seeing the impact of these approaches across our school.

Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews

On Monday 7 September, we will be holding our Term 3 Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews.

Term 3 interviews are a little less formal than our other interviews throughout the year. They provide an opportunity for students to come along and share some of the wonderful things they have been learning and doing in their classrooms this term.

Bookings are filling quickly, so please head to Compass to make your booking. If you need any assistance with making a booking, please contact the school office.

We look forward to seeing many of you on the evening!

Book Week

Book Week is coming up, and we can't wait to celebrate our love of reading and books!

Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character and join us for our Book Week Parade on Friday the 28 Augus at 9:00am in the undercover area.

The parade will be followed by our Book Week Assembly at 9:15am, which will replace our usual 2:50pm assembly. We encourage families to come along, enjoy the parade and celebrate the wonderful world of books with us.

We are looking forward to seeing lots of creative costumes and, of course, plenty of book characters!

Parent/Carer School Survey

We are inviting all parents and carers to complete our Parent/Carer School Survey. The survey provides families with an opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts and feedback about our school.

Your feedback is extremely valuable. It helps us understand what we are doing well, where we can improve and what matters most to our school community. The feedback we receive contributes to our ongoing school improvement planning and helps us make informed decisions about the future direction of our school.

The survey link has been posted on Compass. The more families who have their say, the better picture we have of our school community and how we can continue to improve.

Foundation News - Mrs Emily Burns

We are over halfway through our term! This term has been a lot of ‘head down bum up’ in all aspects of our learning. We are continuing to learn about the seasons, weather, the sun and the earth in our reading and knowledge lessons. In Writing, we are using the conjunction because to expand a kernel sentence, by writing the reason why something happens. In Maths, we are beginning our maths fluency lessons and learning how to complete quick maths problems in our books in 2 minutes. We are all very excited for the school concert and have continued practicing our class and whole school songs.

This week is also our last week with Ms Gabby teaching us, she will be finishing up and completing her last semester at university to then be a qualified teacher! It’s been fantastic having an extra person in the room to help and support everyone for the past 6 weeks.

Grade 1 News - Mrs Tanya Vanderkley

Busy as always in the Grade One room!!!

In Mathematics, our Grade Ones have been learning to use the split strategy to solve addition problems. Students are developing their understanding of how numbers can be broken apart into more manageable parts, making mental calculations easier and more efficient. We have been practising different ways to split numbers and explaining our thinking using mathematical language. 

In Writing, we are continuing to develop our narrative writing skills. Students are working on creating engaging stories with interesting characters, settings and events. We have been focusing on using adjectives to add detail and bring our writing to life, as well as using proper nouns correctly to make our stories more specific and interesting.

GRADE 2 NEWS – Miss Rhiannon Eustice

We've reached the midpoint of Term 3 and the students are showing how much they've learnt this year through their work completion and content knowledge. Each day students participate in a literacy review - They practise high frequency words, read a short piece of text aloud, practise their handwriting and copy sentences with both speed and accuracy, all this in just 10 minutes a day!

The Grade 2 students apply themselves during this time keeping their heads down and challenge themselves to complete more work than they did the previous day. It's these small but consistent efforts during class time that are worthy of a shout out this week. Fantastic work ethic, Grade 2's

GRADE 3/4 NEWS – Mr Andrew Goodson

This term, we have been developing our persuasive writing skills. Here are some paragraphs related to Earth / space exploration:

 Astrid:

We need to look after our planet, Earth, because it is the only planet suitable for life for humans. There are many resources that earth provides for us to survive. For instance, food, air and water are resources we can’t live without. Therefore, Earth must be protected!

 Trinity:

Space exploration helps us learn about space. Discoveries are a main part of science, especially space. Planets that we know and don’t know of can be amazing discoveries. Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun, is a red and rocky wasteland. Future missions to other planets like Mars are helpful to scientists and our population.

 Charlotte:

We live on our great planet Earth and there is so much more beyond it, but we haven’t explored ANY of it. There are seven other diverse planets we could explore with different temperatures, atmospheres and so much more. For example, Mars, a bright red planet humans hope to explore, has so much we can learn about. Finally, our space missions not only help scientists, but future lives.

GRADE 5/6 NEWS – Mrs Bonnie Irving

All About Space - By Macey

Space has thousands of exquisite sights to learn about. I will mention three facts about the stars, tell you about the Sun and to wrap it up I will tell you about the eight planets in our solar system.

Stars are wonderful sights, if you look up at the night sky you will often see stars. First, you have noticed some stars are brighter than others, that’s because of distances. Next, stars only come out at night and that is because of Earth’s rotation around the Sun. Lastly, did you know that stars make up constellations? Two constellations I know about are the unicorn and the dolphin. The Unicorn is in the Southern Hemisphere and the Dolphin is in the Northern Hemisphere. If you love stars, look up at the night sky.

The Sun is one of the brightest stars in our solar system. The Sun can fit 1.3 billion Earth’s inside it. Our Sun is about 4 thousand degrees. Because of the Sun, Earth had light. Let’s keep learning facts about our solar system…

In our universe we have eight planets. Only Earth is substantial for life and for a lot of other things. There are eight planets, they are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Our planets are amazing but sadly only one is suitable for life.

I hope you learnt something about our solar system and what is in it. How hot our Sun is, our different planets and all about stars. I learnt something just by writing this and all these facts are wonderful, just like the sights of our solar system.
